– Treatment of infections caused by susceptible strains of gram-negetive bacteria:
+ Septicemia
+ Meningitis and other central nervous system infections
+ Uncomplicated and complicated urinary tract infections
+ Respiratory tract infections
+ Bone and joint infections
+ Gynecologic infections
+ Intra-abdominal infections
– Ceftazidim may be used alone in cases of confirmed or suspected sepsis.
– Ceftazidim may also be used concomitantly with other antibiotics in severe and life-threatening infections.
Store at or below 25°C. Protect from light and moisture.
Administration:
Ceftazidime may be given intravenously or by deep IM injection.
IV Injection:
– Reconstitute the vial containing 1g with 10 mL of sterile water for injection to provide solutions containing approximately 100mg/mL.
IV Infusion:
– Reconstitute the vial containing 1g of ceftazidime with 100 mL of sterile water for injection (sodium chloride 0,9%, dextrose 5%) (10mg/ml).
IM injection:
– Reconstitute the vial containing 1g of ceftazidime with 4 ml sterile water (250mg/ml).
Dosage
– General dosage: IV or IM 1g every 8-12 hours.
– Serious infections: such as: intra-abdominal and gynecologic infections, meningitis: 2 g every 8 hours.
– 30 to 100 mg/kg daily in two or three divided doses. Doses up to 150 mg/kg daily (maximum 6 g daily) in three divided doses may be given for severe infections
– 25 to 60 mg/kg daily in two divided doses. In neonates the serum half life of ceftazidime can be three to four times that in adults.
– Reduce dosage in patients with Clcr≤50 mL/minute
– Manufacturers recommend that adults with Clcr≤50 mL/minute receive an initial loading dose of 1 g and a maintenance dosage based on Clcr.
