Ophthalmology: 

• Administration:Before incision, usually dilated pupils by an appropriate mydriatics; may anesthetize or general anesthetize. After incision, drop chymotrypsin into the eyes. Chymotrypsin lyophilized powder must have been diluted to the solutions as the instructions of manufacturer.
• Dosage:After incision on cornea-sclera or cornea-sclera-conjunctiva, irrigation of the ocular posterior chamber with 1-2 ml chymotrypsin solution  containing 150 units/ml (1: 5.000) or 75 units/ml (1: 10.000). When you have removed the iris or opened the iris and put stitches, wait 2-4 minutes and then irrigate the ocular posterior chamber with at least 2ml of diluents or 0,9% sodium chloride solution. If the ligaments are still intact, you can add 1-2 ml of chymotrypsin diluent through the iridectomized hole of the iris, wait 2-4 minutes, and then continue irrigation of the posterior chamber with at least 2 ml of diluent or 0,9% sodium chloride solution. Then try to take the lens out. Generally, if you use the thinner chymotrypsin solution, you should increase the volume, and extend the waiting times. The concentration and volume of solutions may vary according to experience to achieve optimum efficiency. 

Treatment of post-fracture or post-operative oedema: To treat the post-fracture or post-operative edema and to help loosen the upper respiratory tract secretions, you can use chymotrypsin intramuscular dose of 5,000 USP units, 1-3 times daily.

Note: Chymotrypsin solution for eyes must be prepared just before using, portion of unused solution must be eliminated. After preparing, if the chymotrypsin solution is cloudy or has precipitation, it must not be used. Exposure to heat can cause enzymes damaged. Not sterile autoclave the chymotrypsin lyophilized powder or the prepared solutions. Syringes and utensils must not have the alcohol or antiseptic because they can cause the inactivation of the enzyme.
